South Melbourne FC's dream run in the Australia Cup will continue, after they overcame Freemantle City in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Siniša Cohadzić's side - who eliminated A-League team Adelaide United in the previous round - held their nerve from the spot following a back-and-forth 3-3 draw.

The OFC Pro League finalists started brightly and were 2-0 up after twenty minutes. Arran Cocks opening the scoring before David Yoo doubled the lead a few minutes later.

Freemantle City responded excellently and were level within sixteen minutes. Charles Chechlacz pulling one back from the penalty spot before Cameron Edwards made it 2-2 just four minutes later.

They maintained that momentum into the second period and took the lead for the first time on the night after 51 minutes - Shubham Mokala beating Jack Charlston to complete the turnaround.

South Melbourne were not to be denied however and levelled matters with twenty minutes remaining, thanks to a Bul Juach penalty.

No further goals arrived in either regular or extra-time, with penalties to settle the tie.

South Melbourne were flawless from 12 yards, with Marco Jankovic, Jordan Swibel and Arran Cocks all scoring, whilst 'keeper Charlston came up with three huge saves to deny Freemantle City and book his side a place in the quarter-finals.
