Offseason Round-up Pt. 10

It's been another busy week of OFC Pro League news, with plenty of updates to share. None more so than the confirmation of 2027's fixture list, including a slight change to the finals format and a new finals host.

On top of that, we have a new Head Coach installed at Vanuatu United FC, a high-profile signing for South Melbourne FC and a number of Pro League stars signing off in style at the MSG Prime Minister's Cup.

Honiara confirmed as 2027 finals hosts

The road to next season picked up considerable pace this week with confirmation of the fixture list for 2027.

Arguably the biggest news was the announcement that Honiara's National Stadium will hosts the finals series, including the final itself on Sunday, June 6.

There's also a slight change to the format, with a playoff round introduced, before the quarter and semi-finals, ensuring the tension and excitement builds right to the last kick of the campaign.

Albert Riera takes the reins at Vanuatu United

Former Auckland City FC coach Albert Riera has been confirmed as the new Head Coach of 2026 semi-finalists Vanuatu United.

The experienced manager enjoyed a period of sustained success in Auckland, winning multiple OFC Men's Champions League titles, as both player and coach, as well as guiding the team at two FIFA Club World Cups™.

Riera will be supported by new VFF Technical Director Emerson Alcântara, who himself has considerable experience in the region, as former Vanuatu national team coach at senior and U-19 level.

Pro League stars power Fiji to MSG Prime Minister's cup success

Fiji lifted the MSG Prime Minister's Cup on home soil, in no small part thanks to their contingent of Bula FC talent.

In fact, every goal scored by Stephane Auvray's men came from Bula FC players, with Roy Krishna, Maikah Dau, Thomas Dunn, Sterling Vasconcellos and Scott Wara all finding the net. It was Dunn who grabbed the crucial goal in their 1-0 win over Vanuatu in the final.

Away from Bula FC's influence, there were also highlight performances from Javin Wae, Rafa Le'ai, Ati Kepo, Azariah Soromon and Tony Kaltack as the Pro League players made their mark.

The experienced striker joins a side brimming with confidence, as they prepare for the Australia Cup final on October 10.
